"Reggie" loves to be let out of his pasture and play on the patio, just outside the home's front door. Reggie, was LUCKY to live another day.. Martha, found him in one of the most unamaginable situations, and quickly stepped in.... Saving this animals life. Reggie couldn't be any more great full.
"Cactus" was our second mare (female horse) to arrive to the farm. She was an overused lesson horse that was tossed from one owner to the next. She needed some TLC. We gave her exactly what she needed - a forever home...
"Snickers" and her friend "Domino" (not shown) were tied up at a feed lot and abandoned and starved, left for dead. But now, they have a loving forever home.
"Chewy" and her brother "Chompy" (who has now passed away) were abandoned.
"Cactus" (on the left) and "Sweet Lou" (on the right). THANK YOU LOU... Is all we have to say! This mare was fighting for her life so many times, surgery after surgery to repair a shattered jaw, followed by blood clots, and seizures. Lou, thank you; you taught us about horses and the values of life.. We love you with all our hearts, as you love us too. You broke us in to rescue horses, as soon as we saw you as an unwanted horse left in a Quilcene pasture. Thank you for your years of love you have given us, and the years of love that still lay ahead. We love you.
"Barney" was surrendered to us after his fate ahead was in a soup bowl. After having his stomach pumped twice, he became too much for his owners. He has been a joy to have around at the farm.
Main barn at Blakely Hill Farm
"Victor"... What can we say about this little guy? Have you seen a cuter face? This little man was dumped like garbage, until we found him.. When we first took him in, he was so frightened, he started to loose his fur. He got to wear his own quilted "goat blanket" (or in other words, a very large dog coat). Now, he has the softest fur of all the goats.
"Cody" or "Wild Bull Cody" is one of the most inspiring rescues we have ever made... While my daughter, Shelby, was looking for a performance horse to compete with, we decided to look around for a horse in need that Shelby could work with and train for jumping. Then, we came across Cody. A 16.2hh Thoroughbred gelding (male horse) colored with a beautiful reddish-chestnut. When we drove up to his "home" we were instantly shocked. Cody belonged to a "barn" that consisted of a broken down mobile home and electric fence on a very small piece of property. Cody's "pasture" was a dirt pen lined with electric wire so small, he couldn't lay down to rest. His neck, was only half way covered in fur since he was infested with lice. His mane was tangled into one long clump that had lice all over. His tail was also infested, well, what was left of his tail was. The poor Thoroughbred's bones were sticking out and you could easily count his ribs. We estimated he was a good 200lbs underweight. As we looked into this horses paperwork, we realized he was an ex-race horse who ran under the name "Wild Bull Cody" for two years. He was 8 years old, already having 8 different owners. Obviously when you looked at Cody, you saw an athlete. But he was "hot in the head" and very difficult to control, let alone ride. However, when Cody was ridden by Shelby, something just clicked. It was pure magic. He was now our horse. After one year of rehab, weight gain, lice treatment, and training by Shelby, our malnourished horse has become a star in the Show Jumping Arena and we have high hopes to see this horse make his way all the way to the Grand Prix competing under his new show name, "Against All Odds". Way to go Cody!
"Otter" and his best friend "Latte" (Not shown) came from Loomis California in a time of need. These two horses have only been a pleasure to work with. Otter came with a hoof injury, but one year later, he has turned in to an absolute amazement in the show jumping arena (watch his video)
"Cody" relaxes in the pasture
Cody, not even one year since we rescued him. (Competing at the Bainbridge Island Classic)
"Odull" One of our four rescue llamas that got abandoned in a field.
One of our many "death row" dogs. This one is "Sam". He loves his little owner, Riley.
